An Endless Exile By Mary Lancaster
An Endless Exile is the love story of Hereward "the Wake", the 11th century English hero who led the only major
resistance to the Norman Conquest.
The story is told by his Flemish-born wife, the learned and slightly
mysterious Torfrida, mostly in flash-back, as she tries to come to terms with the brutal murder of her estranged husband.
Part romance, part murder-mystery, the novel details their adventurous life together from their first riotous meeting as little
more than children, through their stormy courtship and the stirring events of their married life, as the charismatic Hereward
rises to his full potential as a patriotic leader resisting the Norman invasion of England.
But it is his betrayal which parts him from his wife, leaving her
reluctant, four years later, to investigate the truth behind his murder. And when she finally understands, she has to face
her greatest danger yet and fight hard for her last chance of happiness.
