MISSION STATEMENT

OPS: Oceanic, Polar, Space... and more

OPS-Alaska’s mission seeks to expand the human ecology. It takes two avenues toward this goal. First, it supports the space enterprise across various fronts. Second, it supports natural and social/behavioral research projects aimed at improving the quality of life for all and ensuring the continuation of the human race. These avenues are followed through the steppingstones of what appear as disparate research projects and programs. However, OPS-Alaska takes as a given that there is a unity of knowledge and that phenomena can be explained and predicted by webs of causation across adjacent levels of organization. In this, our multidisplinary research associates subscribe to the notion of consilience as outlined by E.O. Wilson. However, a caveat, our idea of consilience is not seen through the sociobiological lens, and we continue to ask, "What is knowledge?"
