Colorado's Fourteeners (new 9/23/98)
The following list of Colorado Fourteeners includes updated elevations from recent USGS maps. Data for this list was also gathered from three publications: A Climbing Guide to Colorado's Fourteeners: Twentieth Anniversary Edition by Walter Borneman and Lyndon Lampert; Dawson's Guide to Colorado's Fourteeners by Louis W. Dawson; and Colorado's Fourteeners by Gerry Roach. For more information on these books link to the Backcountry Bookstore--Climbing/Mountaineering Guides. The Fourteener Gallery contains a wealth of information on Colorado's 14,000 foot peaks--photos, maps, informative articles, route descriptions and much more. In addition, North America Fourteeners is a web site that lists all the fourteeners in North America.There are 54 recognized peaks exceeding 14,000 feet in Colorado. In addition, there are 7 other high points or subpeaks exceeding 14,000 feet but due to their close proximity to the dominant peak and the lack of elevation increase above the connecting ridge, these 7 are excluded from the list of recognized fourteeners.
