MANY WATERS
(A Triptych)

Three Musical Pieces based on original stories by Angelee Sailer Anderson

The Many Waters triptych consists of three twenty-minute instrumental pieces, composed on a Korg O1/W synthesizer, and sequenced using Cakewalk Professional for Windows software. Each piece narrates, in musical terms, a story.

I. The Fairies' Pavane

This piece, the most stylistically far-flung in the triptych, contains original examples of three Renaissance dance forms -- the pavane, the galliard, and the sarabande. It also, among other stylistic side-roads, boasts a rock and roll segment and a spooky "alien" segment. The piece uses a wide variety of sound patches, but concentrates especially on bells, harp, bowed strings, horns, and acoustic guitar.

II. Wedding Song

This piece includes flowing "river music," a primitive "clan chant," a heart-piercing "night theme," a humorous horn imitation of "bloodbirds," and an exultant "bridal song."

III. Of No Device

A sea chanty, a Spanish guitar segment, and a dynamically percussive "hoof canon" are among the notable features of this piece.

To read about the stories upon which these pieces are based, soon to be published in a chapbook by Pyx Press, visit my Many Waters and Other Stories page.

Here follows a "program" of the triptych. (The section titles do not refer to separate pieces, but provide a sort of running headline for the stories.)
